Keiko 2025 – Update 5

Keiko’s puppies will be three weeks old tomorrow and things are starting to get much livelier in the whelping area. All eyes are now open and the pups are noticeably more alert, responsive, and mobile. They are getting up onto their feet with more confidence and are starting to engage more with each other and their environment.

We have begun weaning today with a smooth white fish mousse, which has gone down very well as their first introduction to food. In the coming days we will begin gradually mixing in mashed up kibble to help transition them onto a more solid diet at a gentle pace.

The whelping box has now been extended to include a toilet area, and we are already seeing them naturally starting to move away from their sleeping area to use it. A few toys have also been added to their space for gentle enrichment as they begin to explore and interact with new textures and objects.

We are continuing with early neurological stimulation and daily desensitisation, all of which help build strong foundations as they grow and develop.

Everything is progressing well and Keiko remains calm and attentive with her pups!

Keiko 2025 / Update 4

Keiko’s puppies will be two weeks old tomorrow and they are doing really well. Most now have their eyes at least partially open and are beginning to focus. They are a little more mobile each day, with some starting to lift themselves up and wobble about on increasingly steady legs.

They are feeding well, gaining weight consistently, and spending most of their time either asleep or tucked in close to mum. The whelping box is starting to get a little livelier, but we are still very much in the quiet early stage.

Keiko continues to be a fantastic mum. She is keeping everyone clean, well-fed, and content, and is in excellent condition herself.

Everything is going smoothly and we are pleased with how the litter is progressing.

Keiko 2025 / Update 3

It’s been a week since Keiko delivered her beautiful litter of eight chocolate puppies, and what a lovely, settled week it has been.

All eight pups are thriving, feeding well, and steadily gaining weight. They are still very much in the sleepy newborn stage, but their little legs are getting stronger each day and they are beginning to shuffle around the whelping box with a bit more purpose.

Keiko continues to be an excellent mum. She is calm, attentive, and completely at ease with her puppies. She keeps them spotless and is always close by, but is also happy to take short breaks to stretch her legs and enjoy her meals, especially if sardines are involved.

We are loving watching this lovely box of chocolates grow and change every day. We expect to see their eyes starting to open over the next week, which is always a lovely milestone.

More updates coming soon.

We still have two spaces for girls from this litter. If you are interested in one of Keiko’s puppies, please complete our new owner questionnaire on our website.

Keiko 2025 / Update 2

Keiko’s puppies are here!

Not quite Bonfire Night babies, but they certainly arrived with a bang. Keiko delivered eight gorgeous chocolate puppies yesterday afternoon, all within just 3 hours and 17 minutes, with the final arrival just before 6pm.

Keiko was calm, focused, and handled everything like a complete natural. We couldn’t be more pleased with how smoothly she managed to deliver them all. Once the last pup was safely delivered, she tucked into a well-deserved bowl of scrambled eggs and sardines with a sprinkle of glucose, and is now resting contentedly while feeding her beautiful new brood.

We ended up with seven girls and just one boy. We expected a few more boys, but Mother Nature does like to keep us on our toes. The pups are all rich chocolate shades, with a couple so dark they look almost black!

We’ll be sharing more updates over the coming days and weeks. But for now, Keiko is doing brilliantly, and we’re enjoying the calm after a fast and smooth whelping!
